Hurricane Sandy Preparedness

As it becomes apparent that Hurricane Sandy will be affecting our area in a significant way, keep in mind some basic safety precautions: have flashlights and extra batteries on hand, have a battery powered radio available, keep cell phones charged, avoid entering high water, avoid downed wires. Stay tuned to the Township facebook and web pages for updated information.  See this link for a Red Cross Hurricane Safety Checklist.

Tracking Hurricane Sandy

The Hazlet Office of Emergency Management is currently tracking the forecast for Hurricane Sandy. The township's emergency services are making preparations for whatever path the storm may take and our Department of Public Works is also preparing the storm sewers for heavy rains, particularly in areas historically prone to flooding.

As preparations continue, stay tuned to the township website and social media pages, your local media outlets and http://www.weather.gov for official updates.

Preservation of Open Space

This morning, Mayor Dave Tinker, Committeeman James Brady, Committeeman Scott Aagre and Freeholder Serena DiMaso joined members of the Hazlet Environmental Commission and the Open Space Advisory Board to announce that the Township is permanently protecting as open space nearly 12 acres of land off of Scott Drive, along the Waackaack Creek.  The property contains significant wetlands, which will now be preserved as open space in perpetuity.
