*** A SPECIAL REQUEST FOR FIRE, EMS AND POLICE AGENCIES WHO FOLLOW OUR PAGE **
To all of our Fire, EMS and Police friends around the world. As you may know, our community has been working hard to support the volunteer firefighters in our neighboring community of Union Beach who lost more than half of their fire pagers and most of their portable radios (along with at least two Class A Pumpers an
d all but one fire house) when their town was decimated by a 15 foot storm surge and 87 MPH winds associated with Hurricane Sandy. Most of their firefighters homes were either completely destroyed or are now uninhabitable and must be demolished.
We are closing down the Virtual EOC here on facebook for another day
Alright fellow Hazlet citizens, we are going to close down the Virtual EOC here on facebook for another day. It seems hard to believe that our first post regarding Hurricane Sandy was 12 days ago. We will be back at our posts tomorrow morning bright and early. As always, if there is anything urgent to report, we will get it right out to you, but chances are you won't see any substantive news until tomorrow morning.
(On a personal note, does anyone else find it amazing that 12 days have passed since our first mention of the storm?)
77% of the township with power!
Oh OK, one more update, just because it is good news: we are up to 77% of the township with power! Still not 100% but we are pushing hard for West Keansburg (the entire Keansburg Substation is still down), the Line Road area, Sam's Trailer Park, the Laurel Avenue area, and the localized roads and neighborhoods that are still out.
Chief of Police James Broderick is out right now personally checking the entire community for remaining outages and we will forward that to JCP&L Executives once again. Hang in there folks, we are pushing hard for you!
Want to know how much your collective efforts have helped during the storm emergency?
Want to know how much your collective efforts have helped during the storm emergency? During the period of 10/27 through 11/4, the township's facebook page (and all of our facebook friends reposts and likes) have reached more than 40,000 people on Facebook. Together we have done many amazing things this week!
Temperatures tonight are forecast to drop to about 35 degrees in Hazlet.
Temperatures tonight are forecast to drop to about 35 degrees in Hazlet. Not quite freezing but cold enough for the more than 2,000 homes and businesses still without power. For those of you concerned about pipes freezing, here are some tips from the Weather Channel.

No Further Need for Clothing Donations
There is no further need for clothing donations. Union Beach and Keansburg have all they can use Nd more than they can handle. Our donation centers are near capacity.
If you know of someone who needs clothing or supplies, please refer them to Maranatha or St. Benedict's churches.
Continued Contact with JCP&L
Mayor Tinker, Chief of Police Broderick and Twp Administrator Valentino have been on the phone and in personal contact with Senior JCP&L managers this morning detailing the neighborhoods that still need power and urging them to move additional resources into Hazlet. Our police department has been tireless in maintaining a list of streets that are still without power and we are triple checking that JCP&L management has the latest information -- leaving nothing to chance!
Thanks for your continued patience and perseverance. We are doing everything we know to do and even inventing some new ideas along the way but if you need anyrhing, please make sure you are passing it along to us and we will do what we can to help.
