Hazlet Township Bureau of Fire Prevention

Our Mission:

The mission of the Hazlet Township Bureau of Fire Prevention is to prevent fires and minimize the risk of life and property loss through education and fire code enforcement.

The Hazlet Township Bureau of Fire Prevention has the responsibility and authority to enter, investigate and perform routine fire inspections of all buildings, structures and properties in Hazlet Township with the exception 1 & 2 family dwellings in which the owner of the property resides.

The Township of Hazlet is a NEW JERSEY CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION – LAW ENFORCEMENT jurisdiction. Therefore, all phases of the recruitment, selection, and hiring process for entry level law enforcement positions conform to the rules and regulations established by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission and Township of Hazlet Code.  The Civil Service Commission exclusively conducts Entry-level examinations once every two years.

The mandatory qualifications for appointment as a municipal police officer are:
 
  • Citizen of the United States;
  • Good health to satisfy pension requirements;
  • Literacy (read, write and speak the English language);
  • Good moral character (based on contemporary standards); and
  • Free of criminal conviction involving moral turpitude. 
  • Hazlet Township residents are given preference in the hiring process.
