August, 2021 The Hazlet Hammerheads Swim Team is back! After COVID-19 restrictions in 2020 prevented a summer league from happening, the team was able to return to the pool club this year and just completed another successful season under new coaches, Jim Rimbault and Olivia Havens.
“This year was a special year,” said Asst. Coach Olivia Havens, who has been swimming as a Hammerhead since she was 6. “We wanted to get these kids back in the water doing what they love. Seeing the smiles on their faces is why we do this.”
The team is comprised of swimmers ages 5-18, and focuses on strengthening swimmers strokes and race abilities while promoting a fun and high energy atmosphere.
If you’ve come to the pool club during the evening in July it is likely you’ve seen what the team is all about. The coaches can be seen instructing in the water or on the sideline while swimmers are doing laps, cheering one another on.
The season ended with many personal best times and championship ribbons, but more importantly kids were just happy to be back in the pool and falling in love with summer swim again. The team is already looking forward to next summer.
