1. How do I pay a Ticket? 

The Hazlet Municipal Court will take payments at the Violations Bureau Window from 8:30 a.m. -  3:00 p.m. We will be able to assist you faster if you have your payment information with you. We are located at 255 Middle Road, next to Hazlet Police Headquarters. Acceptable forms of payments are cash, check, money order and credit cards. 

You may make a payment online at www.njmcdirect.com. To make a payment online you will need the court code, which is 1339, ticket number and your license plate number. 

You can also make payments via the mail and the 24-hour drop box. Please include the summons or complaint number on the check or money order. Remember to sign the check or money order. Do not send cash.

3. When do I have to pay my ticket by?

Your date to pay your ticket is the court date on the front of your ticket unless you are pleading not guilty or you have a mandatory ticket that requires a court appearance.

4. Will I get points? Or will I receive points on my out-of- state driver’s license?

The court does not assess points. That is done by the Motor Vehicle Commission.

5. I lost my ticket and don’t know how much it is. What should I do?

Please call the court immediately with your driver’s license number or plate number for a parking ticket. We will be able to assist you by searching our computer database. Our number is (732) 264-2231.

6. I need to change my court date. How do I do this?

You must call the court to request an adjournment. If you need the date changed due to a previously scheduled vacation or work/school conflict documentation must be submitted.

No adjournments are granted on the date that you are due to appear in court. In the case of an emergency a doctor’s note or documentation will need to be required.     

Adjournments are not granted for arraignments on first appearances for serious motor vehicle summonses issued for DWI(39:4-50), driving while suspended (39:3-40) or uninsured motor vehicle (39:6B-2).

                                   

7. I need an attorney but I cannot afford one. Can I be represented by the Public Defender?

 You must make application for this through the Judge in the courtroom. 

In order to be eligible, you must be charged with a consequence of magnitude and your income must fall within the guidelines established. 

The Judge may also require you to submit proof of your income. If approved there may be a fee assessed not to exceed $200.

8. Can you recommend an attorney?

No. The court is not permitted to recommend an attorney. You may call the Monmouth County Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Service at (732) 431-5544 or refer to the local yellow pages.

9. I received a subpoena to testify. Do I have to appear?

Yes. A subpoena requires your appearance. The Judge may find you in contempt or issue a warrant for your arrest if you fail to appear.

10. There has been a warrant issued against me. What should I do?

You can post bail at any Municipal Court or Police Department. Credit cards are not accepted.

11. How do I obtain discovery for my case?

For local discovery, a written letter must be brought to the municipal court to be stamped received and then brought to the records department at the police station. For discovery to be obtained from the State Police, a written letter must be sent to the municipal court to the Attention of the Municipal Prosecutor.

12. How do I obtain a copy of a disposition?

A Records Request Form must be filled out and sent to the court with the fee.  A disposition with the raised seal has a $10.00 fee, without the raised seal is $5.00. You can obtain the form by clicking Records Request Form (njcourts.gov)
